Permanent Partial Disability Award(PPD) Attorney

Compensation for Permanent Impairment

Permanent partial disability (PPD) settlement

Are you permanently impaired because of your work injury? A permanent partial disability is a workers compensation award paid to an injured worker at claim closure to compensate for residual permanent impairment related to the work injury. A permanent partial disability (PPD) is an L&I settlement for physical and mental injuries. This award is paid in a lump sum after you have finished treatment and you are found to be gainfully employable.

How do I get a permanent partial disability (PPD)?

Your PPD award is calculated using a category rating system. A doctor assigns a level of impairment to your injury ranging from category 1 to category 9, depending on the character of the injury. The category of impairment is assigned to a certain amount of money determined by legislation. The amount of your PPD is the amount money that corresponds to your category rating. See the PPD schedule to see how much your PPD might be worth.

Permanent partial disability ratings, or permanent impairment ratings, are often performed by IME doctors. As discussed herein, IME doctors aren't usually your friend, and they are hired by L&I or your Self-Insured Employer. Thus, their opinions can be biased in favor of the employer with regard to your permanent impairment. See if your attending provider is willing to perform his or her own impairment rating. Call our office to see if we can put you in touch with a doctor who will give a fair rating.
